The route for the Rayner Trophy 2016 started at the top of Du Toits Kloof pass. The competitors hiked up the tar road to the car park at the top and camped on the Suurvlakte at the base of New Years Peak. Naturally there were bases on top of the peak. The next day, the competition hiked down the old Limietberg trail and firebreak to Junction Pool, the Spook House and to the old burnt down Limietberg hut. This is where Scouts got into the river, minus their packs which were transported to the finish. Scouts kloofed and swam their way to the end of the competition.
Rayner Trophy 2016 was won by 1st Monte Vista, with 1st Bergvliet in second place and 1st Pinelands in third.
