Message from Chief Commissioner Gary Pienaar
The South African National Jamboree “SANJAMB” is a local event which is intended to take place every four years. It provides Scouts with the opportunity of a local Jamboree experience, which is more accessible and cost effective than the international options. Sanjamb 2017 attracted some 650 Scouts and Adult Leaders. At the very least, we hope to host double that number in December 2021.
In February, Regions were asked to propose suitable venues where such an event could be held. A number of proposals were received, and after much deliberation and consultation, the decision has been taken to hold Sanjamb 2021 in KwaZulu-Natal. It is the intention of SCOUTS South Africa to rotate this event between the Regions in the future.
More details for the event, including the final dates and participation fee, will be communicated later this year. In addition, the process for participants and adults to register their ‘expression of interest’ will be announced shortly.
Our immediate priority is to set up an Organising Committee to begin the detailed planning work for this event. A team of volunteers from the host Region will be appointed to this committee, for this purpose. It is important that the key role players reside in KwaZulu- Natal to facilitate the many site visits and pre-event preparation that will be required.
