Meerkat Kon-tiki Pirates

The Zandvlei Sea Scout Base was a hive of activity from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 March 2022 as the Western Cape Scouts held their first Kon-Tiki competition since lockdown. Brilliant rafts were built, fringe activities took place and much fun was had by all! View photos by Rodger February here,
On Kon-tiki Sunday, fifty Meerkats from all over the Western Cape descended on the IYC at Zandvlei and transformed it into a Pirate Kingdom! For many of the Meerkats this was their first taste of the Kon-Tiki adventure!
“”Assisted by their eager families, they made pirate hats, build rafts that sailed from recycling material, learnt how to play “Walk the Deck” and most exciting of all, raced on land rafts with poles” explains Den Scouter Judith Bishop.
“The Meerkats sailed from base to base and proved themselves excellent pirates. Dens manning the ship were 1st Bothasig, 1st Claremont, 1st Durbanville, Durbanville-Kraaifontein, 1st Muizenberg, and 6th Rondebosch.”
