Well done to the Western Cape Scout Region for your contributions to the global City Nature Challenge! A whopping 19.8% of all the Cape Town observations were made by Scouting members and friends! 

The City Nature the Challenge is an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April, where cities around the world join in a “collaboration-meets-friendly-competition” to see what wildlife people around the world can find and document within their own cities.

This year La Paz, Bolivia came out on top. What a great effort by the Bolivians! Cape Town came in at a brilliant 3rd place. Out of the 1267 observers, 603 of these observers did so under the banner of “SCOUTS South Africa” .  Of the 52,758 Cape Town observations – 10,464 were from Meerkats, Cubs, Scouts, Scouters, parents and friends from around the City of Cape Town, as well as the Garden Route, West Coast, Overberg and Overstrand.  Many thanks to all who took part in this fun citizen science project.

The City Nature Challenge is run by the Community Science teams at the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHM). It shows just what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal. Find our more here: https://www.citynaturechallenge.org.
