Seamanship 2025

In October the Scouts competed in their annual Seamanship Competition at the Simons Town Naval Base. The Scouts had a blast as this is the one time a year they get to sail in the ocean. We had 8 boats competing, each consisting of 5 Scouts between the ages of 14 and 18.

On the Friday evening they all got setup in the Sailing Centre and got going with their activities for the weekend. On Saturday morning they rigged their boats for pulling and had some close racing, with a couple of races ending in photo finishes. They then proceeded to rig for sailing and spent the rest of the afternoon racing in the bay. After a long day on the water, the Scouts cooked a 3 course meal to be judged, all based around Pizza. On Sunday the wind picked up but being the best of our sailors, the Scouts braved the weather and went back out to sail another 4 races.

After a long weekend in the sun and water, 1st Fish Hoek Sea Scouts came out victorious, having impressively won every sailing race.

A massive thank you must be given to the Naval Base, for accommodating the Scouts and allowing us to use the Sailing Centre. The Scouts look forward to competing in Simons Town every year.
