Give an hour for earth!

We are excited to be partnering with WWF South Africa again to #GiveAnHourForEarth! As Scouts, we stand by our values and the Promise we make. Scout Law 6 states that we “Promise to be a friend to animals”. This means that as Scouts, we will do our best to respect, protect, and care for all living creatures and their natural habitats. That we will not only try to understand the natural world around us, but will do our best to care and protect it.

This Earth Hour we are asking you to enjoy the world we live in, take steps to protect it, or run one of our exciting Scouting programmes in the month of March!

Are you in?

Here are some ideas:

  • Go to a WWF movie in Cape Town or Johannesburg at Scout discounted rates!
  • Run an Africa Scout Day programme
  • Join the Africa Scout Day event in Johannesburg
  • Run a National Challenge “Be Water Safe” programme
  • Chat to younger Scouting members about water safety
  • Spend an hour on a service project to help our planet or your community
  • Spend an hour on an outdoor adventure like a hike or a sail with your Patrol
  • The options are endless!

Earth Hour is the world’s largest grassroots environmental campaign. It started as a ‘switch-off’ event, but in South Africa, where we are sometimes involuntarily switched off for hours at a time, we do Earth Hour differently, rallying supporters to give an Hour for Earth by doing something they love.
